One of my future projects as a photographer is to create fashion portraits of women of all body types and ages, giving more cool photos to pin. Let’s push away this idea that only one body type and only youth can be beautiful and have fun with clothes. The sabotage to ourselves and our girls’ subconscious is not fair. We need more choices in fashion photography to pin and inspire. So that’s why after reading this article today in the New York Times Magazine I wanted to run to my computer to pin this kickass portrait of filmmaker Leslye Headland on one of my pinterest boards. I’m not sure who she is but one of the great things she said was that she wants to look cool in magazine pictures so that ‘‘little girls will put female filmmakers on their Pinterest boards.’’ Of course this resonates with me! and she definitely achieved cool. Sadly, I could only find a sweet laughing photo of her in the online article so I snapped this cell phone pic. Now to go off and pin it…

What a delight! to document the birthday girl’s special night of shoes-off dancing and laughing with friends. She’ll be glad in years to come that she took a moment to follow me off of the dance floor for this portrait with her proud parents. Isn’t it sweet? <3

Katie Eva. I swear I read about her when I was little in a book by L. M Montgomery or was it Louisa May Alcott? Perhaps I turned the pages of a storybook beautifully illustrating the glossy red hair of her brood. Did I read aloud their adventures to my own children? In one scene Flossie, the middle child, plops down a flight of steps one by one in roller skates on her rear before gliding to greet the caller at the door. Commotion ensues next to the shoe-lined entrance, a tangle of Katie, leash, and three vibrant kiddos with cute English accents. The cause: the family tortoise is ambling as quickly as a tortoise can amble seeking sofa shelter while the dog chases after him.

Oh wait that wasn’t a storybook at all! It was just my good luck to meet Katie Eva, picking up my son from her home for the first time. She is like a storybook character traipsing through scrapes, predicaments, & all sorts of fun adventures. And guess what? I’m the photographer who gets to follow her around giving you a little view into one of her adventures: the building of a suburban home in Montclair.

We met in the lot one day in May. Katie explaining the plans:DSC_1067-6-2
